Prayer

Pray is the greatest power this world has ever known. At NTBC we believe in praying for the needs of our community and the needs of our church family. We have prayer chains that consists of four Captains with teams of 10-12 families on each team. These people desire to pray for any needs that arise.

If you have a prayer request or would like to be placed on our prayer team please email Joita Henry at mamabear10@localnet.com or call the church office at (540) 890-3304. One of our greatest privileges is praying for any needs that are brought to our attention.

Let me say that prayer is the Christians greatest privilege. For most of us it is our greatest failure.

Now there is in the Christian life no substitute for prayer. If you where in a accident and where to lose a leg it would be possible to be fitted with an artificial leg to take the place of a natural leg. If you don’t want to use a telephone you can get a substitute such as sending the message through email, text message and so forth. You can get a substitute. There is no substitute for prayer. Other things may be good and fine within themselves but they are not a substitute for prayer. Eloquence is not a substitute for prayer. Energy is not a substitute for prayer. Enthusiasm is not a substitute for prayer. Intellect is not a substitute for prayer. There is no substitute for prayer.

Prayer in my estimation is the greatest unused, untapped force in the universe. People are always trying to tap into energy. Scientist have been looking at the energy of the ocean as the tides have been flowing and the waves swell if there is somehow we can use that energy. We have learned how to use nuclear power. But the greatest unused energy in the world is prayer. Now let’s look at the passage of scripture in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his sons asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Please contact us with any prayer needs you may have. We desire to pray and watch as God removes the unmovable mountains in your life.

Elder over Evangelism

On Palm Sunday 2005 at New Testament Baptist Church I gave my life to Christ and my life has been changed forever more. I am very honored and humbled to serve in evangelism because my heart is burdened for the lost especially in the areas around Vinton and Roanoke. I am excited to see what God is going to do at New Testament and what He is going to do through me in this area of ministry!

Elder over Discipleship
From the age of three years old, my three brothers and seven sisters attended church in Salem where our mother played piano.  My Mom being so humble and loving herself always instructed us in the ways of our Lord.  At the age of fourteen I confessed that I was a sinner and asked Jesus to come into my life.

My wife, Martha and I came to NTBC to visit in August of 2012 and then began attending regularly in the fall.  I knew as soon I began attending NTBC that this was where God wanted me to serve Him.  I’m so excited to be in this family of believers who are so kind and loving. Just asking for your patience and prayers during this period of service as we seek Him to do great things!

Elder over Missions (Support Coordinator, Projects, Prayer and Update, Conference, Community)

I have been saved for over 35 years. I was studying a Sunday School lesson in my home, at the end of each lesson there was an invitation to accept Christ. I was convicted to pray the prayer of salvation that night. At the end of the prayer, I knew beyond all doubts that Jesus had come into my heart. I have had the privilege of serving him ever since.

I am honored to be given oversight of our Mission Department. Missions are the heartbeat of me and my wife. We have been involved in missions one way or another for years. In 2005 we surrendered to serving our Lord as full-time missionaries. In April 2007 we were sent to Bulawayo Zimbabwe to serve.

After one year overseas we came home because of illness. Our time there was such a blessing. I have gained much of my insight into what missions is and what it takes to be a missions-minded church through serving in the field and heading up several other mission ministries. I am looking forward to working with New Testament in serving our Lord through missions.  Matthew 28:19-20.

Jimmy Wood

Elder over Music
My name is James Wood.  I accepted Christ into my heart when I was about 7 years old.  After I

accepted Christ and became older and started High School, I fell away from Christ for a short

time.  Sure, life was great… I was young, had a job, a great girlfriend, friends, etc…

I began getting mixed up in the wrong crowd and was mixed up the wrong things for some time.

Even then, God continued to bless my life.

After turning my life around and returning to Christ, my blessings continued to be given to me,

even more abundantly.  I now have my beautiful wife Amanda (High School sweetheart) and daughter

named Abby.  I have a fantastic job doing things that I enjoy, many friends, and a close family.

I want to follow God’s will for me to serve as an Elder at New Testament Baptist Church.  I will

do what God asks of me and I will do it to the best of my ability.  Serving as an Elder will

allow me to grow closer to our Lord and help New Testament Baptist Church reach more souls for Christ.

Earl Cook

Elder over Service

Hello, my name is Earl Cook.

I have been a Christian for thirty-four years and an active member at New Testament Baptist church since its beginning in 1976.

One thing I love about our church and have supported is our dedication to our missionaries.   Even prior to being the elder overseeing missions, I’ve always believed that it is our duty to help the missionaries to the greatest extent possible.  Even though we can’t go to the mission field, I feel we fail our church, fellow Christians, and God if we neglect our responsibilities to our missionaries.   It is so great to have their visits to our church from their field and tell us about what is going on in other parts of the world and their reaching others for Christ.

New Testament Baptist Church thanks God for allowing us to be a part in this cause for Christ and pray always for our missionaries.
